Christy H. Schaefer is the head of the firm’s Workers’ Compensation Subrogation practice group. She devotes a significant portion of her practice to the investigation and prosecution of complex workers’ compensation and property subrogation claims on behalf of large and small insurers, self-insured companies and third-party administrators.
Christy is a highly-regarded industry lecturer on workers’ compensation case law, trends and recovery strategy, and performs frequent client training seminars and file reviews to outfit in-house recovery representatives with effective and concise strategies for maximizing lien recovery.
Christy litigates files in all fifty states, and is licensed to practice law in Illinois, Indiana and Minnesota. She has been admitted to practice before the Federal District Courts for the Northern, Southern and Central Districts of Illinois, Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan and the Eastern District of Wisconsin, and has been granted pro hac vice admission in more than sixty Circuit, Superior, District and Appellate Courts throughout the United States.
Ms. Schaefer received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Tulane University in 1991 and her Juris Doctor degree from Indiana University-Bloomington School of Law in 1995. After graduating from law school, Ms. Schaefer served as a Marion County, Indiana Deputy Prosecuting Attorney. While employed as a Deputy Prosecutor, Ms. Schaefer was assigned to the Major Felony and Metro Gang Task Force divisions respectively, and tried in excess of 50 jury trials.
After leaving the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, Ms. Schaefer joined the law firm of Clausen Miller, P.C. as a senior associate specializing in commercial and residential fire loss subrogation. More recently, Ms. Schaefer was a partner at the Chicago Office of Cozen O’Connor where she developed expertise in workers’ compensation subrogation, fire spread, products liability, construction defects and mold loss recovery.
Christy resides in a western suburb of Chicago with her husband and three children.
