Southland Senior Services is a not-for-profit corporation serving people 60 years of age and over, residing in Crete, Green Garden, Monee, Peotone, Washington and Will Townships. Their priorities are directed toward the vulnerable elderly living alone on a fixed income.
Southland Senior Services’ main objective is to provide older people with the kind of supportive services that allow them to remain independent and a part of their community for as long as possible.
Weekday lunch is served at Southland Senior Services. For those unable to come or cook for themselves, home delivered meals can be made available.
Southland Senior Services transportation service provides 27,000 rides yearly. This service is not only available to seniors, but also to the handicapped in our area who are without transportation. Priority service is given to medical appointments and out-patient treatments, such as dialysis and radiation, the nutrition site, and grocery shopping.
On a scheduled basis Southland Senior Services provides access to information and referral and income tax assistance. They also have a recreation program with weekly card parties, quilting, monthly pot luck bingo, weekly visits to the gambling boats, trips, and bingo on Sundays.
Southland Senior Services is funded by Title III funds: township and village funding: community appeals: United Way of Will County: Metro United Way: PACE; Department of Human Services: individual contributions and donations, and fund raising activities.
